The alarm aboard MBM control boat Blue Fin went off 0500, and Time Flies slipped and departing Portsmouth by 0530. An hour later Claire and Richard reported conditions were good for a crossing, and the fleet were readying for the off.

Zanique was the first depart Gosport closely followed by fellow 10-knot boat Pearl Trader at 0700. By 0900 the rest of the fleet were on passage. The fleet experienced balmy conditions in the channel.

Everyone is now assembled safely in Cherbourg Marina. The weather has been very kind, and with unexpected sun overhead on passage there are some burnt faces among the fleet.

A briefing was held at 1800 French summer time (FST) on the pontoon regarding the passage to Jersey tomorrow, followed by an MBM tradition – a pontoon party. This was a chance for those to celebrate their first Channel crossings and for everyone to mingle for the first time. Congratulations to our first Channel-crossers – The Two of Us, Silver Fox, Illusion and Pearl Trader.

The weather looks unsettled for the next couple of days but the MBM team will keep a close eye on it. Time Flies is due to depart Cherbourg at 0800 FST to assess the weather conditions off the Cap de la Hague, in view of the first boats departing at 1000 FST.
