Days eight & nine – City life (27&28 August)

It's a bit of a shock to the system - five days in a friendly seaside resort and now plodding around Spain's third biggest city.

Have left the quiet-ish coastline behind and have spent a couple of days in Valencia which is a great city, but a bit of a shock to the system. Preparations are well underway for 2007’s America’s Cup and the waterfront is fantastic. Not being a yachtie myself, the importance of this event has obviouly passed me by as there are references to it EVERYWHERE and it doesn’t happen for another two years…

The city itself is less claustrophobic than other Spanish cities, thanks to the gardens that run along a for,er riverbed right through the city and also the amazing Science Park, which is like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

I’m writing a complete guide to Valencia for the mag, so look out for that.

Now I’m in Perpignan, just above the Spanish/French border. That might seem like a bit of a random leap (actually, it is) but due to bad planning on my part I have a three day press trip of the Languedoc’s marinas starting tomorrow. Am really looking forward to it actually as I think it’s a stretch of coastline that’s going to get more and more popular for Brit boaters in the future. Anyway, back to Spain (Barcelona) on Thursday and then off to the Balearics. Lord help us.

I could write loads more about Valencia and Perpignan (a beautiful town) but am in a strange internet cafe and it’s getting late. Am a bit aware that I’m a girl on her own for the first time since I started this trip. Will toughen up and tell you lots more tomorrow.
