BMT to unveil multihull superyacht concept at Monaco show

The new design from BMT Nigel Gee is like no catamaran you’ve ever seen before

BMT Group seems intent on proving that catamarans can transcend their reputation for limited living space with its latest concept, which is due to be unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show (24-27 September).

Project L3 (or L cubed, we’re not quite sure how to pronounce it) is better described as an 85m multihull superyacht, which has more deck space than a 100m monohull.

BMT Nigel Gee has used this space to include an open-air fire pit on the sundeck and a courtyard with pool outside the main accommodation deck.

Power comes from a hybrid CODAG system, which can propel this mammoth multihull to a top speed in excess of 40 knots.

In terms of tenders, owners can store both a racing catamaran and a two-seater seaplane, for when your Bond villain lifestyle calls for a quick getaway.

Designed in Southampton, this extraordinary creation is the brainchild of James Roy, design director at BMT.

“This was both a very exciting and challenging proposal to work on, as the styling needed to reflect the speed of the vessel while maintaining a high volume for the interior,” he said.

“Gentle flowing lines, which have a sense of urgency about them, have been combined with a bold colour choice to ensure that this 85m, high-performance catamaran makes a statement in the harbour.”

However, with an undoubtedly astronomical price tag, James admitted that it will take a “visionary client” to place an order. Over to you, billionaires of the world…
