Avon statement

Jobs to go at big manufacturer

Avon Inflatables have released the following statement:

Huw Griffiths, Joint Managing Director, Avon Inflatables Ltd: “Further to the announcement of 10th April 2008 that boat manufacturing at Avon Inflatables Ltd (Llanelli) would cease by April 2010, the board of Zodiac Marine & Pool has reviewed the Boats Business Unit reorganisation plan.

The immediate effect of this Review is that over 50 jobs previously destined to be made redundant by April 2010 will now be saved.

While the manufacture of leisure boats will cease as planned by the early part of 2009, Military & Commercial boats will now continue at the Llanelli factory for the foreseeable future.

The current subcontracting of work to outside contractors will be brought back in house to the Avon Inflatables Ltd factory.

It is intended that the redundancies indicated above will be achieved via a voluntary redundancy program. The details of this program will be made known to the negotiating representatives within the next week or so.”

On the announcement of the decision, Alan Morgan, added: “While there will still be very limited and regrettable redundancies, the overall decision is a fantastic one for Avon, for our skilled workforce here at Llanelli and for Welsh manufacturing.”
