Bénéteau has released details of the hotly anticipated replacement for the Swift Trawler 42.

The Swift Trawler 44 will premiere at the Paris Boat Show in December 2010 and has borrowed many of the clever design touches seen on the acclaimed ST34, tested by MBM in December 2009.

The ST44 is said to bigger than the 42 in every department. The wheelhouse has gained an extra 1m in width by using the same asymmetric deck design as the ST34, the main starboard side deck also winning on space.

Bénéteau has made more effort with the fit out too. The enlarged saloon has a social sofa to starboard with multiple storage spaces, converting into a double berth with a dividing curtain adding more privacy. More finesse is promised for the forward stateroom and guest cabin while two toilet and shower compartments are laid on.

The extensive remodeling includes a new vertical wraparound windscreen and an extended bathing platform. A semi-recessed staircase leads from the cockpit to the flybridge, where L-shaped seating is set around the helm as with the ST52.

Power will come from twin Volvo Penta D4 diesels, with 26 knots claimed. If the 44 handles anywhere near as well as the old 42 it will be a fine sea boat.

Importantly Bénéteau are hoping to deliver the ST44 at the same money as the ST42, around £350,000 inc VAT, and with the pound doing well against the euro that’s good news for buyers.
