Bénéteau MC5 to lead new flybridge line-up

World's biggest boatbuilder relaunches Monte Carlo brand as all-flybridge range

French boatbuilding giant, Bénéteau, has big plans for its Monte Carlo brand, starting with this striking 50ft (15.2m) MC5.

Not to be confused with the existing Monte Carlo Yachts range, from the same group, the MC5 kicks off an entirely new series of boats. Stand out features include a dramatic wave-cutter hull, said to deliver smooth progress in all sea conditions while improving efficiency by around 8%, compared to traditional planning hulls.

The bow’s sharp appearance sets the theme, with a uniquely handsome superstructure and those incredible oversized amidships ports set into the freeboard.

With the MC5’s styling setting the tone for the range of boats to come, the future looks bright. Ultimately the MC range will run to 60ft, with sub-50ft versions also due for launch.

The galley-aft layout – the new must-have cruiser accessory – serves the saloon and cockpit, with two large seating areas and a large table for the former. Further forward is the helm, with a double forward facing seat.

Below decks you’ll find a forward VIP cabin, separate heads and a double bunked third cabin, each bunk enjoying its own porthole. But it’s the midships master cabin that takes the spotlight. Making full use of the 14ft 1in (4.29m) beam, an island double berth sits between those large portholes with a private en-suite finishing the luxury spec. Up top, a large flybridge puts the emphasis on serious cruising with masses of seating and a dining area, rather than sunpads.

Power will come from twin Volvo Penta IPS500 or 600 engines that are likely to power the 13-tonne craft to around 30 knots, although official performance figures are yet to be confirmed.

Bénéteau is on a mission to move its finish and reputation on and if this MC5 looks as good as it sounds then it will mark a seminal moment in that quest.
