Boats and engines needed for the 2012 Olympic Games

Time is running out for companies wishing to apply for two tenders to supply RIBs and outboards for the 2012 Olympic Games

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has issued tenders for two separate contracts for the supply of over 150 support boats and outboard engines.

Most of the boats will be required for the sailing events to be held in Weymouth and Portland, Dorset, and manufacturers of RIBs should be able to supply them within a 12-month lead time.

Chris Townsend, LOCOG commercial director, said, “The boat and marine services procurement LOCOG is undertaking is a valuable opportunity for the UK marine industry.

“Securing the supply of a wide range of boats for use by client groups including mark layers, marshals and media will play a crucial part in the successful staging of the water-based events at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Anyone interested in applying for either tender must register online and lodge their interest by tomorrow. The deadline for submitting tenders is 30 April.
