Bohinc Record! exclusive

Motor Boat & Yachting can exclusively reveal that the Fabio Buzzi-designed FB80 Bohinc Record! set out on a Round Britain Record attempt at 0500 this morning from Poole.

Sources have revealed that owner Hannes Bohinc is being assisted with navigation by Dag Pike in his bid to circumnavigate mainland Britain clockwise in record time. The crew aims to complete the 1,440 nautical mile course in 36 hours, almost four hours below the record recently set by Peter Dredge and Ian Sanderson in their 38ft Sunseeker XS2000.

The RYA’s Dredge has agreed to timekeep for the record. His Sunseeker XS2000, at 38ft, achieved its record in the 30-50ft bracket and so his record will stand regardless of the time set by Bohinc Record!

Designer Fabio Buzzi is believed to be onboard for the attempt, as he has for both records attempted and set so far: the Round Italy Record (Trieste – Monte Carlo) and the Monaco – London record. The latter, set at the beginning of August, was achieved in 64h, 44m at an average of 33 knots.

As well as the two records achieved so far, Bohinc intends to take on the Miami – New York record (948nm) held by Gentry Eagle; the Round The World record (24,382nm) held by Cable & Wireless Adventurer. Next year, Bohinc Record! will attempt the Transat record (2,940nm) currently held by hi-speed ferry Cat-Link V.
