Chance to hone seagoing skills

Informal fun day afloat in the Solent

The United Kingdom Offshore Boating Association (UKOBA) will be staging a seagoing treasure hunt in an around the Solent on Saturday May 3. This informal event will be open to all motorboating enthusiasts with craft capable of averaging 15 knots over a 30 mile course.

The aim of the competition will be to navigate accurately to eight different locations. On arrival an official will ask the crew to solve a cryptic clue and answer a nautical question. The event will finish with a BBQ and prize giving at the Royal Southern YC on the Hamble with the crew accumulating the highest number of points collecting a valuable prize.

The organising team will include and RYA approved examiner who will assist with the finer points of navigation should help be needed. This ‘fun’ event will therefore give newcomers an opportunity of improving their seamanship and navigational skills alongside friends and family in an informal setting.

Entry will cost £20 per boat plus a modest charge for the evening RSnYC BBQ depending on crew numbers. The event will be limited to 40 boats making early entry advisable.
