Britain's Steve Curtis set himself on course for his eight world offshore Class 1 (16 litre) title when he won the opening round of the 2006 series in Doha, Qatar.

Driving Sprit of Norway alongside Norwegian Borg Gjelsten in relatively calm conditions, the pair led form the start virtually unopposed. They were chased by the UAE entered Victory 77 driven by Al Marri that took second place with local contender, Qatar 96, finishing a close third.
It was a successful event for British crews. The fastest pace in pre-race speed trials for the ‘pole’ award was also won by Curtis. But it was the newly formed all-British team of Chris Parsonage and James Sheppard that finished second fastest in the Lamborghini powered King of Shaves well ahead of the earlier favourites.
