Youngsters can get involved in the celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar by entering a competition to make a replica ship’s figurehead.

The best figurehead, judged by a panel of naval experts, will be exhibited in the Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The sculptor will win VIP tickets to the Trafalgar Square grand finale of the T200 celebrations in October.

The competition is open to children aged eight to 14 and can be entered at school as part of Art or Design and Technology syllabuses, or as an extra-curricular project.

The top 10 entries will be displayed at the International Festival of the Sea in Portsmouth on 30 June and their creators will be awarded tickets to the festival.

The deadline for entries is 27 May. For details of how to enter and for figurehead specifications and tips, visit the competition website www.seaandlearn.co.uk
