Salvors plan to remove the aft section of the stricken containership MSC Napoli in one piece. SMIT Salvage BV has been awarded a contract to lift the section, which will be loaded on to a huge barge before being towed away for disposal.

The Dutch company says that the aft section of the 62,000-tonne ship will be removed from its resting place in Lyme Bay by November. MSC Napoli was beached off the Dorset coast after suffering severe damage during a violent storm in the English Channel on 18 January 2007.
