Floating Hamble restaurant fire

Fire has damaged one of the River Hamble's most popular waterside restaurants.

Fire has damaged one of the River Hamble’s most popular waterside restaurants. Flames were seen coming from the roof of the Ferry Restaurant at the Elephant Yard in Bursledon shortly after 1pm on New Year’s Day.

The restaurant is built aboard a converted Itchen chain ferry that used to carry passengers and vehicles between Southampton and Woolston. It took firefighters more than three hours to extinguish the blaze, but although damage has still to be assessed, it is reported to be mostly superficial.
