Malcolm Crease from Vector told MBY that the vessel involved was a prototype model, capable of speeds of up to 110mph. Engineers suspect that a mechanical failure caused the boat to flip into the cardinal marker.

“It was on its final approach, with Peter Dredge at the helm, one of the safest pairs of hands in the sport, so I’m sensing a technical failure of some kind,” Malcolm added.
