Winds in excess of 80mph blowing across France have beached a tanker carrying 220 tonnes of fuel

Crews aboard TK Bremen were evacuated earlier today by helicopter as the vessel hit the Kerminihy beach in Erdeven, southern Brittany

The prefecture of the Morbihan region said in a statement that a 1km strip of fuel is heading along the beach.

The local government warned people to stay indoors as rescuers pump fuel from the hold of the maltese flagged ship.

The ship ran aground 100m from shore before being pushed onto the beach by force 11 winds
