Jeanneau guard charity kids on voyage of hope

Manufacturer gives support boat for emotional trip

Jeanneau are providing a Prestige 36 motor yacht for a major French boating project to help children living with leukaemia.

The scheme, called “Les Voiles de l’Espoir” or “Sails of Hope”, runs every other year, taking 60 children aged between eight and 14 on a boating trip.

This year the youngsters will sail from Mont Saint Michel to Jersey, with the Prestige acting as support boat.

The voyage is undertaken with the support doctors and hospitals, and a spokesman says: “For the 4,500 members of the Les Voiles de l’Espoir association, the objective is to offer a few hours of joy and excitement to some children. Whether cured or in remission, all participating children are patients at various branches of the French university hospital centres, and their condition of health permits them to travel and to meet conditions for sailing.”
