Lonely female dominates P1

Jackie Hunt, the only female driver in the P1 series, sets the pace in the SuperSport

Jackie Hunt, the only female driver in the Powerboat P1 World Championship, sets the pace in the SuperSport Class at the halfway stage of a highly-competitive season.

The 5ft 2ins blonde, partnered in a 525hp Mercury-engined Dragon Powerboat by her husband and ARPRO Racing team navigator Mike Shelton, is defying uncompromising male rivals in her first season at this level.

Hunt, from Hook, near Basingstoke, had to cope with the setback of disqualification after protests from opponents in Italy last month. She demonstrated her resolve by bouncing back to win last weekend’s German Grand Prix.

At the next P1 race in Gallipoli, Italy, she will be looking to extend her Championship lead over nearest rivals Albatro Marine from Italy and Chinese-entered Ocean Dragon, before returning to home-shores for the 2006 Cowes Powerboat Festival.

With racing close to the shore and featuring spectacular support action from Thundercats and the return of the V24’s and Honda Championships, Cowes will be transformed by the excitement the Powerboat P1 British Grand Prix, taking place over the August (25th-27th) Bank Holiday weekend.
