The March 2017 issue of MBY is a Med special with tests of Med-focussed boats, area cruising guides and advice on how to prep your boat for a move south

The March 2017 issue of Motor Boat & Yachting is out now and it’s a Med special.

Jack has been out testing some Med-focussed boats in the shape of the Azimut 66, Fjord 48 Open and Fairline Targa 53.

The Azimut aims to take on the likes of the new Sunseeker Manhattan 66 and Prestige 680 with a cutting edge, carbon fibre structure and effortless Italian cool and we get beneath the skin of the rakish Fjord 48 to see if it is any more than a flash day boat. In Fairline’s Targa 53 Open you have a more traditional sportscruiser but one that is just as happy lapping up the sun.

In this issue we also reveal the winners of the 2017 Motor Boat Awards and explain why the chosen boats won their prize.

In the New Tech section Dave Marsh talks Team Brittania and emulsified fuels and our How To guide this month is in preparing your boat for a move to the Med. On the secondhand boat front, we look in detail at the stylish Azimut 39 and Nick Burnham is tasked with finding a £200k beauty.

The cruising section, unsurprisingly, focuses on the Mediterranean. Peter Cumberlidge explores beyond the Blue Line on France’s west coast, one of his favourite cruising spots where “life on board becomes easier, warmer and more simple”.

An MBY reader tells the story of moving his Hunton XRS43 to Spain, where he discovered that this new type of boating called for a new type of oat all together.

Our Boats contributor Mark Weiss enjoys the first season aboard his brand new Prestige 680 in his home waters of the Amalfi Coast and we have part two of Howard Walker’s series on whether him and his 56ft trawler can cruise the Med hot spots on a budget.

We hope you enjoy the issue.
