Massive drugs haul found on ship in Essex

A huge drugs haul has been uncovered at the Port of Harwich in Essex

More than £13m worth of drugs have been seized at the Essex-based Port of Harwich. The drug haul consisted of 35kg of cocaine and 160kg of amphetamines being found concealed in a soft drinks lorry onboard a ship, which had come from the Hook of Holland.

Dutch man Farid Wenteler, 44, has been arrested and detained until 21 February, charged with illegally importing a class A drug.

Charlotte Mann, Border Force assistant director at Harwich, said, “This was a major seizure and it demonstrates how Border Force officers are at the forefront of the fight to keep illegal drugs and other banned substances out of the UK.
