More RYA certificate fraud

A company trading as the Gibraltar Yachting Association is the latest target of the Royal Yachting Association’s angst.

The RYA claims that GYA have been issuing counterfeit Royal Yachting Association certificates in Spain and Gibraltar, despite not being recognised by the RYA either for tuition or issuing its certificates.

RYA’s Jon Mendez, Chief Powerboat Instructor commented, “The requirements of some countries for certification and the desirability of the RYA name has led to some unscrupulous people issuing fake certificates. People are paying for poor training and worthless certificates. Our message is clear – train at an RYA recognised teaching establishment.”

This incident follows hard on the heels of the RYA’s complaints earlier this month about a company called Pronautica in Mallorca, which has also been accused of fraudulently issuing RYA certificates.
