Motorboat tries to rescue yacht on sub barrier

Who says we can't all get along? A great moment in motorboat/yacht relations took place on Saturday outside Portsmouth

The ancient enmity between the two schools of boatownership is well known: yachtsmen are rag and stick merchants, while motorboaters are all gold-chain wearing stinkpot drivers.

But occasionally, the olive branch is extended, as was the case on Saturday, when an attempt was made by a passing motorboat to yank this yacht off the submarine barrier outside Portsmouth Harbour.

Unfortunately, the attempt failed, and the yacht had to await the rising tide to be freed. Still, it’s the thought that counts.
