New crew ferry for wind farm

Local company wins contract for transporting wind farm staff

Local Norfolk based company Tidal Transits has won a contract with Norfolk-designed ferry Ginny Louise to transport staff to and from wind farms.

The 65ft vessel can cruise at 25 knots in strong winds, and waves of up to 2.5m, allowing crew to be transferred safely.

Tidal Transit has been contracted in a £300,000 five-month deal by Greater Gabbard Wind Farm in Suffolk.

Commenting on the recent contract, Leo Hambro, Tidal Transits commercial director told MBM, “We had tough competition in the contract process, but they liked the fact we were local. The guys also came on the first run of Ginny Louise and were impressed with her handling.

“Unlike other catamarans that tend to slam through the water, the hull on Ginny Louise has been designed to work as a wave-break and cuts through the waves.”

Until recently, Hambro ran a small day charter fishing business from Norfolk, but with a potential eight more boats on order, Tidal Transit say they are now ‘big players within the offshore service sector.’
