New Welsh boat show set for May

The very first Welsh Boat Show will take place at Carmarthen from 5-7 May

While the debate rages over Earls Court and ExCeL as boat show venues, another show has quietly snuck into the calendar – the Welsh Boat Show.

The new show will take place at the United Counties Showground in Carmarthen from 5-7 May, a bank holiday weekend.

The event should not be confused, however, with the South Wales Boat Show, which ran for the first time last year, and which will run again this year from 15-17 June at Margam Park near Port Talbot

The United Counties Showground occupies a vast area of roughly 100 acres, but the show will only be using about 14 acres, or 56,660sqm.

Nigel Burke, one of two directors of the event, told MBM he was expecting 15,000-20,000 people to attend, and exhibition space was filling up fast.

“It’s an ideal sight for a show. It’s on the only road into the whole of Pembrokeshire. And it’s the only show in Wales we know of that has indoor status.”

“We hope its going to be a huge success and help promote Welsh boat manufacturing and also highlight what Wales has to offer.”

Burke added that a new website for the show with more detail than the existing site was currently being constructed, and would hopefully go live next week.
