Newcomer takes out F1 H20 race in China

Alex Carella and veteran teammate Sami Selio promote Mad Croc team to head the points table

Twenty-four year old newcomer Alex Carella from Piacenza, Italy controlled the second round of the Chinese Grand Prix with ease on Sunday, coasting home 2.63 seconds ahead of Mad Croc teammate Sami Selio.

The third round of the 2010 F1 H2O World Championship saw over 50,000 racing spectators lining both sides of the Lihe River as 20 drivers from 13 countries battled around the 2.25km course.

“It went perfectly for us today,” said Alex. “We were able to drive the boat wherever we wanted and at the same time had great speed. We stayed out of trouble with slower traffic on a rough race circuit caused by high winds. I couldn’t be happier and now we are ready to take the second step in China in Liuzhou in two weeks’ time.”

Veteran and 2007 champion Sami Selio was happy for his new teammate to take the glory but will be looking for more speed from his boat at the next race.

“We are pleased and couldn’t ask for anything better,” said Sami. “Now both Alex and I are tied for the Drivers Championship leading with 35 points but need to find a little space between Jay Price and ourselves who lies third with 28 points.”
