Norwegians take lead in Pro-Vee series

Despite poor sea conditions, Norwegian newcomers Per-Carsten Michaelson and Bjorn Magnussen triumphed in the first two rounds of the Pro-Vee championship at Poole, Dorset.

In a race decimated by poor sea conditions, Norwegian newcomers Per-Carsten Michaelson and Bjorn Magnussen collected 29 championship points from the first two rounds of the Pro-Vee championship at Poole, Dorset on 11-12 August .

Driving Spirit of Arendal, they finished fifth in the first round which became a close contest between Italians Mario Invernizzi and Maurizio Darai in Ceramica Panaria and Britain’s Mark Pascoe in Buzzi Buzzard. The duel was eventually won by the Italians after Buzzi Buzzard missed a vital turning mark bringing disqualification. Meanwhile the crew of Spirit of Arendal took it easy to finish fifth and collect nine valuable points.

Sea conditions for the second round the following day decimated the fleet and even the experienced Invernizzi was unable to make the finish. All but the newcomers pulled out leaving a surprised but elated Michaelson and Magnussen the championship leaders.
