Pembrokeshire wave crash injures five

Five people were injured yesterday when a large RIB landed heavily after coming off a wave off St Justinian's

Five people were injured yesterday when a large RIB landed heavily after coming off a wave off St Justinian’s, about 1.5 miles from St Davids. A rescue helicopter was called to the scene and airlifted one passenger to hospital with serious back injuries.

Two other people with back injuries were flown to hospital by air ambulance once the boat returned to St Justinian’s, while a further two with lesser injuries made the journey by road. Eleven passengers were aboard the jetboat, Ocean Ranger, when the accident happened in a slight to moderate sea shortly before 2pm.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch has been informed, but Thousand Island Expeditions, the boat’s operator, said it was not in a position to comment on the incident.
