Plymouth to get Severn class

The existing 52ftCity of Plymouthhas been in station since 1987 and logged 51 launches in 2000. Her 56ft Severn Class replacement will offer 25-knot performance, a 7 knot improvement on the Arun.

The Severn is already in build at Souter Marine in Cowes, Isle of Wight. She will be namedSybil Mullen Gloverafter the West Country marine watercolour artist who bequeathed GBP0.8m to the RNLI in 1995.
