Powerboat P1 to launch new racing hull

New mono-hull design set to create level playing field for competitors

Powerboat P1 management has announced the launch of a new hull set to revolutionise the mono-hull powerboat racing class which until two years ago was known as the Honda Formula 4-Stroke.

The new 28ft (8.5m) P1-28SS has been in development for the past eight months and features the latest technology in safety, hull design, digital telemetry and data acquisition.

It will debut in the SuperStock National Championships in the UK, USA and Norway in 2011 as part of a far-reaching overhaul of Powerboat P1’s sporting and commercial activities.

Powerboat P1 chairman Asif Rangoonwala said: “After eight years in the sport it is clear that one-design racing is the most appropriate format for creating a motorsport with a level playing field for competitors.

“The new boat will help lift powerboat racing from being a hobby into the professional motorsports arena, making it that much easier for spectators and TV viewers to understand.

“Keeping to a simple proposition is at the heart of this is the new boat. We already have negotiations at an advanced stage with at least eight other national federations expected to be racing the P1-28SS by 2012.”
