Friday the 13th July proved very unlucky for one boat in Plymouth. Not only was the boat damaged when it slammed into a pontoon, but the Rear Admiral in charge of the Flag Officer Sea Training Organisation was amongst its VIP passengers at the time.

The boat had been taking the VIP party, which also included the Commodore of the Royal Navy’s Devonport Flotilla and the Lady Mayoress of Plymouth, to a cocktail party aboard HMS Bulwark which was moored in the Hamoaze. According to the boat’s owner, the boat “failed to respond to astern control” as it approached the mooring pontoon alongside Bulwark.

Although some passengers received minor injuries, a Navy spokesman said that all were able to attend the reception. No prizes for guessing the main topic of conversation though!
