Boat owners are being encouraged to join thousands of visitors expected to flock to Open Days at the RNLI Headquarters at Poole this weekend, 21-22 July. Live rescue demonstrations and safety presentations will be carried out on the water and in the sea survival pool, and visitors will also get the chance to see the world’s first lifeboat simulator and look round the Lifeboat College.

More than 8,500 people attended the last Open Day in 2005, which has encouraged the organisers to spread this year’s event over two days. “It’s really important for us to be able to show the public what we do and what’s involved in running the lifesaving charity”, said Emma Cutler, the RNLI’s National Exhibitions and Projects Manager.

Gates will open at 10 am each day and admission will cost £1 per adult, children under five free.
