Stars come out on opening day of boat show

Kelly Brook and Bee Gee Robin Gibb add a bit of glamour to the ExCeL event

The celebs were out in force this morning as the 55th London International Boat Show opened its doors.

Model and actress Kelly Brook was tasked with officially opening the show in front of a large crowd in the North Hall of ExCeL.

Dressed in a nautical-themed ensemble and sporting a Navy hat, the Strictly Come Dancing star cut the ribbon before posing for the press corps.

Later, outside on the pontoons, Bee Gee Robin Gibb joined Sunseeker MD Robert Braithwaite in launching the new 30m Sunseeker Yacht.

Despite the biting cold, a decent crowd gathered to watch the ceremony, which was followed by some hearty tunes from an all male choir spread across two decks of the Sunseeker 37m.

The stars have helped create a bit of atmosphere on the opening day, and organisers are to be applauded for getting the chequebook out.

Away from the glamour, the halls undoubtedly feel a bit roomier, probably due to the high-profile pullout of brands such as Sealine and Bavaria motorboats.

The aisles are wider and there’s more space between the boats, but there’s still enough here to excite boat lovers, including the brand new Princess V42 and stunning new Azimut 58, to name a few.

Andy Williams, MD of National Boat Shows, the organiser, told MBM: “It’s been a fantastic opening and it was great to have Kelly Brook opening the show. All the early indications point to us having a fantastic show.”
