We look back at the top 10 motor boat stories of the year and reveal your favourites

As the calendar ticks over into 2015, we at Motor Boat & Yachting have trawled back through the archives to bring you the top 10 motor boat stories of the year.

It’s been our busiest year yet here on MBY.com, so without further ado, here are the most-read stories of 2014:

  1. Coastguard search continues for missing Sunseeker owner

Our countdown begins with a devastating story from Brighton, where a single-handed skipper was reported missing in November. Speculation was rife as to the fate of Len King, but Sussex Police are still treating this as a missing person case.

  1. New 200hp diesel outboard from Oxe Diesel

A thoroughly techy story makes it into the top ten, as you were clearly fascinated by the launch of this diesel outboard unit from Oxe Diesel. The fact that it was the first story on our new website probably helped boost interest as well.

Sunseeker_37M_The_Snapper

  1. Chris Evans’ Sunseeker superyacht goes on sale for £5m

Stunning photos, celebrity glamour, big-name appeal, this one from September had it all. Don’t worry if you missed the story first time around, The Snapper is still listed as For Sale on the C&N website.

  1. Armed pirates attack media mogul’s megayacht

The bravery of Kerry Stokes’ crew made this pirate attack story truly remarkable, as they fended off a knife-wielding gang and stopped them from stealing anything more than diving gear and food.

  1. Motorboat crash in Poole harbour leads to investigation

Another mystery story that made headlines this year – the Coastguard and local police were left at a loss to explain how a 40ft motoryacht collided with a moored yacht near Lake Pier, despite having no-one on board.

Elling E4_Capsize

  1. Elling E4 is capsized with company CEO on board

A true case of putting your money where your mouth is – in March the CEO of Elling acted as capsize-test dummy. Anton van den Bos completed the 360-degree roll before starting the engine and driving away.

  1. Police arrest eight in red diesel laundering raids

Crime doesn’t pay, but it does make headlines. A series of raids earlier this month uncovered two illicit fuel laundering schemes, which had cheated the taxman out of more than £12million.

  1. Sir Paul McCartney’s Boat Barnaby Rudge for sale

Paul McCartney has been many things in his stellar career, but how many of you knew he was a boater? In May we revealed pictures of his humble old fishing vessel that was up for sale through Essex Boatyards.

  1. 2014 Motor Boat Awards: See all the winners here

In January we named the best of the best in the motoryacht world across nine categories. It’s almost time for 2015’s awards, and you can see all the nominees here.

  1. Sunseeker 155 Yacht: First on-board photos

It’s only logical that the biggest Sunseeker ever built was also the biggest story of the year for us here at MBY.com. With exclusive pictures of Eddie Jordan’s new creation making headlines across the world, this launch was a true highlight in a busy year for Sunseeker.
