High winds and round seas resulted in the cancellation of the Corsican Grand Prix on June 17 but this didn’t damped the efforts of Italian veteran driver, Edoardo Polli, 24 hours earlier. Driving his Seatek powered Tencara cat, Highlander in the pre-race time-trials, he set the fastest speed of the day returning a lap time of 2 min 18.07 secs: over 2 secs faster than his nearest competitor, Bjorn Gjelsten of Norway. His performance ties him with Bjorn Gelsten at the top of the Time Trial Championships with a level score of 35 points while the later cancellation of the Grand Prix leaves Saeed Al Tayer and Mohammed Al Marri of the Victory Team heading the world Class I (16 litre) championship table with 20 points.
