Well-known Thames barge up for sale

Actief is on the market again after being bought by its current owners in 2007

Well-known Thames hotel barge Actief is once again up for sale.

The six-cabin Dutch barge was bought by her current owners in June 2007, but after two seasons as owners, they’ve decided to sell her.

Christie & Co, the company handling the sale, expects Actief to fetch £395,000.

The boat was originally built in 1907, and converted into a luxury hotel barge in 1976.

She has six en-suite guest cabins, and can provide undercover seating for 22 people, or dinner service for 13.

Stewart Harkness, who is handling the sale, said: “The barge has primarily been used as a cruising holiday package, which has been sold to the American market, but it is felt that there are many more alternative opportunities for trade, which include weekend breaks, alternative training facilities and functions, such as birthday parties and wedding receptions.

“It is also felt that this could be an individual business opportunity or would be an excellent added benefit to any leisure operators currently along the Thames.”
