World Cup floating pitch gets new life at Sydney boat show

Final whistle for World Cup fans' football pitch begins work on boat show harbour

A floating football pitch used by fans to watch the World Cup final is to be transformed into walkways for Australia‘s largest boat show.

The unique 5-a-side pitch has hosted street football competitions between local teams as part of the Sydney International FIFA Fan Fest.

For a whole month, Darling Harbour has been transformed for a continuous celebration of the World Cup complete with music, dancing and giant screens for live coverage.

Now that the World Cup has finished the floating football field will be dismantled and then reassembled to form the walkways for the Sydney International Boat Show, being held from 29 July to 2 August.

Specialist construction firm Walcon Marine was tasked with the design and creation of the foundations for the floating pitch, a car display platform for Hyundai and access across the harbour to the giant floating stages.
