VanDutch 40

Read our review of the VanDutch 40 and watch footage from our boat test online

The VanDutch 40 is a stylish, glamorous day boat with overnight accommodation. It sports beautifully executed, pared down styling that always draws the attention of sightseers wandering along the waterfront. Unusually, it can be ordered in any colour you choose (courtesy of its tough Awlgrip paint job) so there's an opportunity to imbue your personal boat with real character.

Despite its cool looks, it is far from impractical. The highlight is the workings of its elongated cockpit, which incorporates a remarkable amount of storage under the deck and the main seating area, certainly plenty for the bulky trio of liferaft, tender and outboard. The superb engineroom is a first rate installation: highly accessible, thoughtfully arranged and expertly installed, and packed with the practical detailing we've come to expect from Dutch boatbuilders.

Rather like many of its exotic automotive brethren, it also has a strongly defined character with marked pros and cons to ponder. It's crazy money, but then how many boatbuilders do you know of who dispense with the usual annoying extras list and instead simply offer a phenomenally comprehensive standard specification. Is it worth the money? That's a bit like asking ‘is a Lamborghini Aventador worth a quarter of a million quid? It's probably not the right question.
