Gocycle G3

The king of the e-bikes. When we say this nippy two-wheeler has race car engineering we mean it – the Gocycle G3 was designed by former McLaren employees and is leagues ahead of its rivals when it comes to style, build quality and performance.

The magnesium alloy frame is ultra lightweight, the battery is neatly integrated into the frame and the slick quick-release wheels clip on to the single-sided fork with a simple twist-and-lock design. Designed to replicate a traditional full-size bike, riders can adjust the height and angle of the handlebars and the ride quality on test was applauded by the entire MBY judging panel.

The fatter tyres, larger wheels, rigid frame, shock absorber and well-cushioned saddle all contributed to the class-best ride. Add in excellent hydraulic brakes and it’s easy to see why riders felt so confident underway. The Gocycle G3 was responsive to even the smallest manoeuvre and with an impressive 50-mile range, this is one of the few electric bikes currently on the market that you can comfortably cover longer distances on.

Riders can select from zero to 100 per cent motor assistance and the Gocycle has a top speed of 15.5mph. An LED dashboard runs the width of the handlebars, displaying battery life and the selected mode and an app allows you to monitor performance and customise your power settings.

Rather than folding down, the Gocycle disassembles (the saddle post lifts out and the wheels come off) and all parts stow neatly into a wheeled carry bag.

A sterling piece of kit that deserves a spot on the MBY Cool 50 thanks to its peerless ride, handling and stunning construction. Owners can clearly see where the money has been spent in this high-tech design and for those in the market for the most advanced and comfortable electric bike, the Gocycle is streaks ahead.
