See behind the scenes at the 2018 Motor Boat Awards, hosted by Motor Boat & Yachting at the Rosewood Hotel in London

The 2018 Motor Boat Awards, one of the most important nights in the industry calendar, took place at the Rosewood Hotel in London last week.

On the night, prizes were handed out for nine boat categories, the Service Award, sponsored by Lombard, which is awarded to a marine company that has provided excellent service to its clients and the Judges’ Special Award.

The awards were hosted by Motor Boat & Yachting’s editor, Hugo Andreae, and deputy editor, Jack Haines. A panel of five highly experienced marine journalists were responsible for sea-trialling the finalists before selecting the winning craft. The international nature of the event was reflected with winners from France, America, Italy and the UK.

The first category of the night was Sportsboats and RIBS, won by the Chris-Craft Calypso 30 with the Boston Whaler 420 Outrage winning Superboats and the Cockwells Duchy 35 collecting the trophy for Wheelhouse and Cockpit Cruisers.

The Bavaria R40 and Princess S60 won the categories for Sportscruisers under 45ft and Sportscruisers over 45ft respectively with the Absolute 58 Fly and Sunseeker Manhattan 66 claiming the prizes in the flybridge categories.

Facing stiff competition the Fountaine-Pajot MY44 won the award for Passagemakers and the Azimut Grande 35 Metri took the Custom Yachts category.

One of the most important awards of the night is the Service Award, sponsored by Lombard. This award is voted for by the readers of MBY and users of mby.com and it recognises marine businesses that deliver consistently excellent service to their customers. This year the award was taken by Boats.co.uk.

The final award of the night is the Judges’ Special Award, which this year went to the staff and management of Fairline Yachts to recognise their outstanding achievement in rescuing this much-loved brand from the ashes.
