Ferretti 860 yacht tour: Inside the very latest Italian luxury motoryacht

Reporting from the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, Motor Boat & Yachting editor Hugo Andreae takes us on a full tour of the Ferretti 860.

The new Ferretti 860 builds on its predecessor’s success with a sleek new profile by Filippo Salvetti, new layouts on both the main and lower decks, and fresh thinking for the interior courtesy of the IdeaeItalia studio.

The first yacht, as shown at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, was built for an Italian customer with the ‘Classic’ interior – a decorative scheme of pale cream and beige tones, contrasting with dark hardwood veneers which, true to Ferretti’s long-established brand values, should be easy to live with.

As a replacement for the Ferretti 850, this is a substantial, generously proportioned motor yacht, with plenty of headroom – some 6ft 8in (2.03m) in the saloon, and 6ft 6in (1.98m) throughout the lower deck.

It also uses a big-boat layout on its main deck, with an enclosed wheelhouse and galley, as well as forward access to the crew cabins, allowing the crew to do their job without disturbing guests.

A spiral staircase amidships on the port side leads down to the lower deck. As you would expect on a Ferretti, there is an impressive full-beam owner’s cabin aft, insulated from the engine room by an expansive head and shower compartment, plus a walk-in wardrobe running along the aft bulkhead.

Of the two double cabins on the starboard side, the forward one is slightly bigger and therefore qualifies as the VIP, while to port there is a small fourth
cabin with two single berths.

Out on deck, the flybridge will probably prove to be the most popular relaxation space for guests, thanks to its long port table and aft sunbathing area.

That said, the cockpit can certainly give it a run for its money, with a glass stern balustrade enhancing the view from the table. And beneath the cockpit, the tender garage is big enough for a 12ft 8in (3.90m) Williams Sportjet plus a jet ski.

The Cannes show boat was fitted with the larger of the two MAN engine options – 2,000hp per side – which gave the stately Ferretti 860 quite lively acceleration, with enough power in reserve to make this a rewarding boat to drive.

Top speed came out at 29.5 knots, but with the Humphree trim on its auto setting, the easily driven medium-V hull was equally happy in the mid-20s and high teens, making this a versatile machine.
