The final part in John Boyle's quest to get his Princess V39 from Mallorca to her home berth in Falmouth

This is the final installment from John Boyle’s epic voyage on his Princess V39Cecienne, from Mallorca to her new home berth in Falmouth.

Passing some of the most volatile coastline in Europe, John and crew pass the dramatic cliffs of Sagres and Cape St.Vincent before heading north on the long slog towards Lisbon.

Rolling Atlantic swells are a danger here and, in the worst instances, can make entry to the sporadic ports of Portugal’s Atlantic coast a perilous task.

Fuel is also a concern on this section of the coast where diesel pumps are few and far between, with the generosity of some friendly locals key to keeping the trip alive.

Passing the grim-sounding Costa da Morte the team stop off at A Coruña before gunning it delivery trip style to the French-Spanish border tucked in the corner of the Bay of Biscay.

One hundred and fifty miles north the conditions weren’t so kind and a heaving, sustained Force 8 meant the crew had to leave Cecienne in Royan and head home for it to blow over.
