Video: Used Boat – Botnia Targa 27/27.1

Nick Burnham guides you around the Botnia Targa 27/27.1

Built in Finalnd the Botnia Targa range is well known for its excellent seakeeping and safe, practical deck design. The fully enclosed wheelhouse offers year-round protection in any weather, their purpose originally being to transport Finns out to their island getaways whatever the weather.

The Botnia Targa 27 was originally launched in 1991 but, in 2003, Botnia did a complete reworking of the boat to create the 27.1, including small changes like a one-piece windscreen as well as more major adjustments like a brand new hull and deck.

A well-protected cockpit is accessed by deep, safe sidedecks that can be accessed quickly from the wheelhouse by a pair of sliding doors. Forward, a sunken bow area provides sociable seating with ample storage below the benches and a place to slot in a table.

On board an aft cabin provides sleeping room for up to four people (sleeping head-to-head) though really its best suited to two. One other change between the 27 and 27.1 was the inclusion of internal access to the heads forward on the later boat. On the 27 you could only access the loo from the foredeck.

Engine options on the original came from Volvo in KAD 42, KAD 44 and latterly KAD 300 guises but by the time the 27.1 came out Volvo had upgraded to the D6 block available with either 310hp, 330hp, 350hp or 370hp.

You can read the full used boat report in both models in the November 2016 issue of the magazine.
