VIDEO: Beneteau Swift Trawler 30

Conditions in Palma were rough for the Beneteau Swift Trawler 30, just what we wanted for our test of this tough pocket trawler

Palma, Mallorca could not have dished up more trying conditions for the Beneteau Swift Trawler 30 during our sea trial.

A rolling swell spiked with a nasty, unpredictable chop was sure to seek out any weaknesses in the entry-level Swift Trawler’s seakeeping.

Luckily the ST30 punches well above its weight in this regard, as you can see in the video above.

Fitted with a single Volvo Penta D6 370hp motor the claimed top speed on a calm day is 22 knots, though we didn’t see more than 19 knots in the conditions of our test.

There are two layout options available with either a single cabin forward with a split toilet and shower room or a combined toilet and shower with a (presumably very cosy) bunk cabin to port.

A double sofa bed in the saloon gives you some extra sleeping space if needed, too.

The flybridge, though nice to have, isn’t the most comfortable place to sit for long stints but the rest of the package is undeniably impressive.
