Many used boat connoisseurs regard the mid 2000s as something of a golden era for Fairline, and this month’s Used Boat is a perfect example of that.

Indeed, we were so taken by the Fairline Squadron 58 that we named it as the greatest flybridge of all time in our 2004 centenary issue.

However, a lot has changed since then, not least the vicissitudes of fashion, so how does this 14-year-old design compare to what’s on the market today?

To find out, we sent Chris Jefferies to Sunseeker Poole, where a 2008 Fairline Squadron 58 is on sale for €650,000.

In this video, we weight up the interior staircase on this model – a feature that has fallen out of favour in recent years.

We also head below decks to take a look at the clever four-cabin layout, including a decent owner’s suite in the bows.
