Canalboat used in break-in

Thieves use a canalboat to ransack a shop in Nottingham

Police are hunting thieves who used a canal boat to break in to a Nottingham newsagents.

The thieves stole the narrowboat from moorings outside the Canal House pub in the early hours of 9 June and moved it along the canal to a door that gave them access to the back of the shop.

They then abandoned the boat, broke into the shop, and stole £2000 in cash and £3500 worth of cigarettes before making their escape.

The narrowboat, which belongs to Nottingham City Council’s Narrowboat Project, was later found drifting on the canal.

Nottinghamshire Police are looking for three or four suspects, and ask anyone with information to contact them via Crimestoppers.
