GALLERY: Meandering to the Med – Part One

This month’s issue of MBY marks the start of a new series Meandering to the Med in which owner Howard Walker takes the long route south

It’s often said that the journey is just as important as the destination, and that’s something our newest contributor Howard Walker certainly takes to heart.

In our new cruising series, Meandering to the Med, Howard decides that in order to fulfil his dream of Mediterranean boating, he will take on the French canal system.

The only problem is that the vessel he has chosen for this journey is a 56ft Dutch steel trawler yacht, which is almost too large to make it through the smallest locks or under the lowest bridges.

Starting out from the Netherlands, Howard takes a quick detour across the English Channel and into London to celebrate his 60th birthday with friends at St. Katharine Docks before heading south into France.

The first part of this cruising series is published in the January edition of Motor Boat & Yachting, which is out on Thursday (December 2).
