Solaris Power 55: Ferretti co-founder’s new project to launch at Cannes

The co-founder of Italy’s biggest boat builder has bounced back from self-imposed exile to launch a new range of stylish lobster boats developed with the Italian sailing boat builder Solaris

Norberto Ferretti’s new project makes its international debut at the 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival with a great deal of expectation given his influence together with the striking lobster-boat design by Solent University naval architecture graduate Brunello Acampora.

Available with 600hp or 725hp IPS engines the top speed is a claimed 35 knots and with a category A RCD rating we would expect the seakeeping to be accomplished.

The cockpit features folding terraces to open up a cockpit that includes a dining table and four-person sunpad to complement the ones on the foredeck and atop the wheelhouse.

The interior layout is flexible and offers from two to four cabins on the lower deck – plus a small crew cabin in the bow – with the option to have the galley up or down.

Ferretti explained the thinking behind the Solaris Power range, at the launch of the 55 earlier this year.

“Among the many boats I have conceived over the years, I was especially smitten by lobster boats, which are a perfect combination of elegance, functionality and seaworthiness,” he said.

The range will eventually run from 44ft to 88ft, all of which feature an innovative new hull design that is claimed to be just as efficient in displacement mode as it is powering across the wave tops.
