Plans have been unveiled for a major new waterfront development in Portsmouth Harbour.

Portsmouth Football Club has revealed plans for a £600 million stadium to be built on reclaimed land between Portsmouth Harbour Station and the Historic Dockyard. Existing small boat moorings would be replaced, and a new dock area would be created to the north of the site to accommodate HMS Warrior.

The boat-shaped development would be 22 storeys high on its southwest waterfront side, reducing to 11 storeys in the northeast corner. In addition to a 36,000-seat stadium, 1,500 waterfront apartments, restaurants and cafés, the 13-acre site would include a beach area and leisure facilities.

Planning applications will be submitted later this year and, subject to consent, reclamation work could begin by summer 2008.
