Gunwharf link plan for Portsmouth

A new walkway could create an enlarged small boat harbour

Plans

have been revealed for a link to be built between Gunwharf Quays and Portsmouth

naval base, creating an enlarged small boat harbour between the two. A new

piled walkway would run from the south west end of the naval base via a new

Gosport ferry berth to the foot of Spinnaker Tower, enclosing the area of water

to seaward of the Hard.

This

would allow the preserved Victorian warship HMS Warrior to remain in her

current berth, but additional mooring space would be provided between her and

the present harbour station. Access to the moorings would be through a lift

bridge in the walkway, the bridge being wide enough to allow Warrior to be

removed every few years for dry docking.

Portsmouth

Naval Base Property Trust says the walkway project is still at an early stage

of planning, but that it is supported by the Queen’s Harbour Master.
