Fountaine Pajot seemingly have the market to themselves - when looking for rivals for this boat it proved near impossible to find a mainstream catamaran alternative. This is their chance then to take the market by the scruff of the neck and produce a cat that can really take the fight to its monohull counterparts.
The owner's cabin takes up the entire starboard hull and guests are catered for across two cabins in the port hull. They're not especially luxurious but headroom is great and there's a lot of storage across all three sleeping areas.
In terms of space there is a strange dichotomy - the aft cockpit is big enough to host a tennis tournament but you won't be swinging your racket in the saloon. It's not bad, it just doesn't feel spacious enough when you consider the boat is 17ft 9in (5.40m) wide.
Out on the water ride comfort is superb and the Summerland 40 shows a very meagre thirst too - at 7.5 knots you'll be able to do 1,000 miles on a tank of diesel.
