Has Fairline's new T58 Gran Turismo set the benchmark for sportscruisers of the future?

Pros and Cons
For: Owner's suite, open-air saloon, tender launch system, cabin stowage, relaxed high-speed cruising
Against: Limited saloon stowage, sharp corners, heavy (optional) cockpit door

Wow, the lengths that some builders go to get your attention! Thankfully, Fairline's engineering innovations on the T58 are not mere fripperies, but actually have purpose.

The inventive tender launch system allows Fairline to abandon the alternative high-lo platform and extend the hull the full length of the boat, and so gain accommodation space inside.

They have used that, and other tricks, to conjure a truly original below-decks layout. The three roomy ensuite heads is enough to single out the T58, but to that you can add exceptionally good storage and the versatility of a port-side cabin.

And don't forget the magnificent owner's ensuite heads, or the funky lighting. All told, the T58 provides what I feel is the best three-cabin accommodation on a sub-60ft sportscruiser.

Just as there is a price to pay for the T58's increased weight and beam compared with its predecessors, there is also a trade for that fabulous below-decks space. Having the galley up on the main deck provides numerous advantages, but the trade for these is much reduced saloon stowage, at least a sideboard's worth in all.

But there's always the crowd-pleasing power-drop saloon windows and multi-panel cockpit door to win you over. No ostensibly 'closed' hardtop sportscuiser puts you more in touch with the elements. If it can feel great on a cold day in Harwich, heaven only knows how good it might feel on a sunny day in Mallorca.
